About Me

Contact Me

As the writer for the blog, I thought that maybe I should share a little bit about myself. My name is Amy, and I was born and raised in the South, so food was a huge part of my life growing up. The Cajun and Creole cuisines of New Orleans, where I am from originally, will always be in my blood. And the deep-fried wonders I consumed growing up in Georgia will always be on my thighs. The best thing about being raised in a culture of food in the South is that now, almost every bite of food I take triggers a memory. I think of friends, family, and ex-boyfriends (sometimes that's good; sometimes it's bad). I think of the places I've lived: Louisiana, Georgia, California, and Virginia. Those bites trigger raw feelings, emotions, and a flood of memories. My past has been chronicled by tastes, so now it is impossible for me to talk about food without giving a little history along with it.

Also, I must confess that I am not the best cook in the world, but I love to learn about food. I'm constantly searching for new information on the subject. For me, the fun is in the research and experimentation. And I've done a lot of these two things, so I have a lot to share.

Here are some things I like and dislike:

  • Current Obsessions: Coarse sea salt, chipotle peppers, garlic, soba noodles, guacamole, vegan Cajun, "everything" baguettes
  • Least Favorite Ingredients: I really do like everything, but if I had to choose something, I would say cucumbers and cloves.
  • Favorite Food Writer: Ruth Reichl
  • Favorite Cookbook: Vegan Planet by Robin Robertson
  • Favorite Food Show: Ace of Cakes
  • Favorite Restaurant: The Grit, in Athens, Georgia
  • Favorite Kitchen Gadget: KitchenAid blender
  • Least Favorite Kitchen Gadget: Electric can openers
