My wife and I love having people over for dinner for no other reason than to share time and life and love with them. Something special happens around the dinner table at home that just doesn't happen in a restaurant.

I don't usually have a specific event as a reason for entertaining. I just love randomly inviting friends over to share a great vegan meal, even in the middle of the week. Although... I do make a fantastic homemade tofu "turkey" at Thanksgiving.

I actually don't entertain at home anymore. People are so freaked out because meat isn't on the menu. but I do send dishes to pot lucks my husband does with scouts and until he recently retired, I sent tons of desserts to work as I experimented. My hubby is a meat eater but I do not serve animal products at home, so he eats what I make-or he eats elsewhere!

My family has always shared food with family, friends, and neighbors as an important part of our lifestyle. I still love cooking for other people because it is just how I was raised. Now that I am eating more vegetarian, and working on becoming vegan, I love sharing the new recipes I find with others. Often, those I cook for are surprised that my dishes contain no meat. My favorite reasons to cook, though, are definitely Thanksgiving and Christmas. In my family, those holidays center around the turkey and the ham. I'd love to bring a new perspective this year and surprise my relatives with some tasty vegetarian dishes!

I love sharing my vegan food because every time I do I am saving an animal that would have been eaten by that person. I am having a graduation party in a little over a month and everything at my party will be vegan. Imagine how many animals I will be saving that day! Plus, I'll be opening up the eyes of many people to vegan food and how good it does taste! With this book I will be able to have many more parties like my graduation party and share different foods (plus I graduate again in a little over 2 years with my BA). This would be an awesome graduation present!!

I love entertaining because it brings the family together. I live in Ohio and football is huge here. I love watching college football especially and last year started a tradition of hosting Ohio State games at my place. While others bring their fave dishes, I provide the majority - all vegan and all mouth-watering. I'm the only vegan in my family, but the omnis still eat my food and we still have fun! I cannot tell you how many recipes I've copied for my mother!

I love cooking! I love food! What I love the most now, since going vegan, is cooking for omnivores and seeing their reactions! The misconception that vegan food is "gross" or "unappetizing" saddens me :( I love surprising omnivores and showing them that vegan diets are not only healthy, but you can still eat anything you want and make it take as good, if not better, than eating the animal products they're used to!

My favorite time for entertaining is on-the-fly!
When family or friends are in town and the phone rings only to find out they are just around the corner. Most people don't really enjoy this too much but I love it. It gives me a chance to get imaginative under the pressure and really shine. The aroma of new flavors, the colors of delicious spices and the sound of loved ones laughing. These times are when I usually make the most creative, vibrant dishes and have the most fun.

Having a healthy dinner is a great way to connect to friends and family that often get caught up with their busy lifestyles. When I host dinners (and bbqs, and dessert nights, etc.) I like to give people a healthy and refreshing meal to take with them as well as the joy of reconnecting with friends and family.
When I cook for my family, it is recreating a dinner tradition that my grandmother started but hasn't been able to keep up since she has been getting older (We sit around the table and say one good thing that happened during the day). Plus, it is always nice to reassure my grandmother that I know how to cook and eat healthily. I am away at college often and she thinks that I will starve because she doesn't understand vegan meals herself!

Seeing friends out is great but it's always hard to have a conversation at a music venue or noisy bar. Having friends over allows for easy, intimate conversations that are so important in developing strong relationships. Having great food that shows the compassionate side of me (vegan) opens up more people to my food choices in a comfortable environment.

I have recently relocated from South Africa to England. My friends in SA never blinked an eyelid at my 'weird' eating habits. However making new friends in England had proved as a challenge as most people are terrified to invite me over, because they don't know how to cater for me.
I would love to host a dinner party at my house where I could make only vegan meals that are so yummy everyone will realise that a vegan doesn't only eat "plain pasta or green salad".
Food and friends what a perfect combo.

Parties & family get-togethers are the perfect opportunity to introduce vegan foods to non-vegetarians. Sometimes, "vegan" sounds too strange or foreign to them until they try my famous vegan brownies or vegan jello shots, then they see that "vegan" means good food and that just about any favorite can be made "vegan".

OMG! My girlfriend (DP) and I LOVE to entertain at our apartment. I absolutely love to share new vegetarian/vegan dishes with them as well. A lot of our family and friends are very interested in our vegetarian/vegan meals. They always ask us how to make their favorite dishes vegetarian/vegan. It is always so great to share a great day or evening with the people we love with delicious cruelty free food.

I love entertaining and bringing people together. Having people in my home, or coming to theirs and cooking for them is one of the great joys of my life. I like to introduce people to new and different ways of eating, adding spice or healthier, secret twists to usually unhealthy faves. It could be any season or holiday, but most times I just enjoy bringing people together with food they miss, can't make or don't have time to make. Vegan food can be delicious and tasty, exotic and sinful all at the same time. Sometimes the best part is creating a meal and surprising folks at the end by telling them it's vegan--when otherwise they'd never have guessed it!

when i entertain, not only do i enjoy the fact that i'm introducing non-vegan friends and family members to the foods i eat, it's also a way to get the less healthy of my loved ones to see that there are tastier, more nutritious, animal-free, cruelty-free ways to nourish one's body. from the dinner table to the bathrooms to my home furnishings, cruelty-free soaps and lotions, essential oil room fresheners, etc.! living vegan is a responsibility i choose in order to help my friends and family realize through my example that life can be more rewarding, peaceful, healthy, beautiful, and happy by not consuming animal products. they see that i've lost weight, have more energy, smile more, am more even-tempered, and it's all thanks to living a more spiritually conscious life, a large part of which involves my converting to veganism.

Cooking is a passion, I love to create and get into that lovely zone as you work and make something that is both beautiful, tastey and vegan, what could be better then sharing something you're so proud of with people you appriciate? So really, any time is the best time.
With a little 4 year old vegan at my side, we make each meal a party, talking about how healthy it is and how not a single soul was harmed for our meal, it's beautiful.

My favorite reason for entertaining is to gather my friends, family and guests together to catch up and have a moment to relax out of their busy and hectic schedules. My secret goal is to show them that eating vegan, even vegetarian, isn't something that should be sneered at. I want to prove to them that it can be easy! When thinking about cooking vegan, people freak out, thinking that it will take hours of preparation and special ingredients that are impossible to find. I love letting my guests know exactly what I put into the food making it vegan and how easy it really is! Of course the taste test is the final decider, and I always get them back wanting more.

Any help I can get would be great. I have not yet purchased any cookbooks. I went vegan 23 days ago. My two young girls 6 & 8 decided they wanted to be vegetarian, my husband is still eating meat. If I can find great tasting recipes that are vegan maybe my husband won't eat as much meat & I can introduce my family & freinds to great tasting animal free foods.
We entertain all the time but not since I've converted to veganism, I'm a little nervous, to prepare vegan food for everyone.

I love entertaining people because it brings us much closer to each other and I believe that closeness is something the world is lacking. I also love to show others that I eat more than "rabbit food" and it is possible to be a healthy, happy vegan. Sometimes people can be surprised at what vegans can eat. It is also good to show others that some of their favorite meals are vegan and they don't even know or think about it. This may encourage them to accept veganism into their lifestyle.

I love to introduce people to beautiful flavours of food that is made from no animal products or content. I am delighted to teach them that meals don't HAVE to be made with animal products. Healthy eating is part of a balance of nutrition and balance of our actions upon the world. It's a full circle. I love that they can LOVE and INDULGE themselves in a meal that they previously would have believed would be too hard and tastless. We can all learn from one another. Food brings people together so why can;t it bring balance to the earth too?

It's hard to entertain when you don't serve meat. However, I love the great company and serving nonmeat wondeful dishes that everyone loves and doesn't notice that it's vegan. Then when I tell them, they make comments that "it wasn't that good", or "wow, I'm still eating meat". Yet they gobble it down like there's no tomorrow.

I love cooking for friends and family on the holidays.I come from a very closed minded family so cookin meals for them gives me the opportunity to show them a delicious alternative to eating meat. I love living a cruelty free lifestyle but even more than that I love it when someone else chooses to because I showed them how easy it can be.

To be honest, I really do not entertain much... yet. But I think this book will give me the opportunity to try out some really great recipes and have some friends over for a special occasion. Letting them see that vegan food can be just as savory and delicious; hopefully, opening their eyes to a new (healthier) main source of nourishment.

Weve been vegetarian for a couple of years - now vegan - it was not a difficult shift for us but our friends are totally freaked out by the whole thing. We invite all our friends to the house because I love to cook, Cathy loves to clean up and we both love to be with friends and family sharing the delicious food, the camaderie, the excellent talk around the table well into the night. Finally we want to share health with everyone we love.

Whenever I have friends and family over for dinner or a celebration, my husband who is not vegetarian, cooks up a meat dish for our guest and I cook the vegan alternative for me. What a great idea, I get so much flack for being vegan, why not invite all of those people over who think I am crazy and say there is no way they could not eat meat, and give them a great vegan meal. For the sake of the animals, I have been vegetarian for 18 years, and vegan for the past year.
I love having family & friends over for the holidays, and try to take these opportunities to introduce tasty, cruelty-free dishes to them.
It can be challenging to offer a wide variety of filling recipes that my meat-eating family/friends will enjoy. Like many meat-eaters, they think being vegetarian (and vegan) is all about being limited to eating lettuce, "like a rabbit".
I have been excited about Colleen's entertaining cookbook, ever since I heard her speak at a fundraiser for Florida Voices For Animals in Tampa. I won her vegan baking cookbook in the fundraiser silent auction, and LOVE it! Not only are there many, many great recipes, but the directions are easy to follow, and the tips on vegan baking has made me a much better cook.
I am confident this newest cookbook will help to further broaden the horizons of my meat-eating friends and family.
Thank you, Colleen, for continuing to give options that absolutely do save precious lives!

I love throwing dinner parties for any reason whatsoever, just to get a little close time with my circle of friends and get to meet some new people they might bring. One of the best parts about throwing the party is choosing a diverse and delicious menu, even for my guests who are more carnivorous than I. I simply glow when a non-vegetarian asks me for the recipe of something I cooked for them, and I am more than happy to oblige!

My favorite reason for entertaining guests is just because- we love to hang out with good food and good friends and have a great time.
It's wonderful when you can accommodate all of your guests dietary needs with one amazing menu.

I love to have dinner parties for no apparent reason- just an excuse to get people over! My in-laws are avid meat eaters, so I love to prepare them a delicious vegan meal that they always love! They always make comments about how it might not taste good, but as soon as they take a bite, they realize it is some of the best food they ever had!

I love hosting movie nights with friends, which almost always involve a potluck - and if we're creative enough we build our vegan dishes around the film or genre for the night. For example, one time we all watched "Murder on the Orient Express" and the requirement was to add one "mystery" ingredient for everyone else to guess. Dorky, no doubt, but we all loved it!

I prefer to entertain "just because", not necessarily a holiday but just because someone is happy about something good in their life or maybe to cheer someone up who is having a tough time.

this would be great because it would help me with some new recipes for our family. We are trying desperately to eliminate all meats from our table.

People are always asking me questions about being vegan: Why? Isn't it hard? Do you get enough protein? But doesn't the food taste bad? Don't you think humans are meant to eat meat, the cavemen did it, didn't they? Hmmm?
When I answer their questions and explain why I am vegan (animal rights, environmental sustainability, and health) most people are curious & want to try some vegan food. There are some amazing vegan restaurants in New York City (Blossom & Dirt Candy are two of my favorite) and I've had vegan birthday cakes at my birthday parties, but it would also be great to be able to entertain my close friends and family at home and feed them my love.
My favorite time to entertain is when there's no reason at all, I just love getting people together so everyone can have a great time....it just usually doesn't happen in my apartment. I've cooked dishes so that I can eat during the holidays and brought food to dinner parties that my friends have had. I think I need to step up my game though...I'd love to have a dinner party in my own apartment and cook a full delicious vegan meal, for my close friends & family, with a beautiful setting and open, warm & welcoming environment. I want my guests to feel comfortable and encouraged to ask questions and be so satisfied with the meal that they want to become vegan too. I just need a copy of The Vegan Table to get started.

I like to throw parties where my guests can just have a good time-nothing too formal or proper, just having a few drinks and a good time [along with some yummy vegan dishes!]

Husband is planning a big Thanksgiving dinner with the theme: Turkey from the Sea, lobster, fish only, no turkey. Fine by me since I'm veggie but I need to plan dishes I can eat. Guests include the mother-in-law so I need some good ideas!
