Help Us Find the Best Faux Chicken in North America!

We're looking for the best faux chicken sandwich in North America, and we need your help! As much as I would love to travel the continent to explore the plethora of faux meats on the menus of restaurants, diners, and even fast-food joints, my schedule simply won't allow it. That's where you come in.

Do you know of a local restaurant that serves up a faux chicken sandwich that's to die for? If so, tell us the name of the restaurant and why it's the best by leaving a comment below. We'll use all the information that you give us here to help compile our list of the top faux chicken sandwiches in North America.

Not everyone is lucky enough to live near a restaurant that serves faux chicken sandwiches, but that doesn't mean that you have to miss out on all the delicious flavor. Try store-bought faux chicken, or you can order it from one of the great online vegan grocers.

Thanks for your help!

Clea :

Without a doubt, the best faux chicken is made by Govinda's Gourmet (and their To-Go section) in Philadelphia, PA. My boyfriend eats meat and kept saying, "are you sure this isn't chicken?" To top it off, they have so many great items on their menu that I want to try them all, but can't get myself to NOT order the vegan chicken cheese steak every time.

Here's their site: http://www.govindasvegetarian.com/

One of my favorite places for faux chicken is Sunflower Vegetarian in Vienna (and now Falls Church), Virginia. They have a delicious "fried chicken" appetizer as well as by far the best faux General Tso's chicken I have ever had. Here is a link to the restaurant:

Michael David Stemle Jr. :

In Irvine, CA there's a fun place called Veggie Grill. They have insanely good meat substitute sandwiches. It's fantastic. I lie awake at night mourning that the Veggie Grill only exists in Irvine, and I live in Mahomet, IL.

brendan gibson :

my girlfriend and i frequent "green" in scottsdale, az. chef damon brasch makes amazing vegan comfort food including a vegan buffalo chicken sub sandwich.

Michele :

I would have to say the Mock Chicken Parmigiana from the Pizza Luce on Lyndale Ave in Minneapolis, MN. I don't live nearby anymore, and I can't tell you how much I miss it!
My best friend prefers the Mock Chicken Dijon, so there ya go! The two best, in the same place. :D

The "tofu-chiggen" at Squid & Ink in Seattle's Georgetown is TOTALLY worth the 50-mile drive I have to make if I want the BEST faux chick sandwich ever created...

Cynthia Risley :

No doubt about it, Delight Soy Foods in Morrisville, NC, makes fabulous faux chicken. It's great anyway you use it, hot or cold.
It's old by the local Whole Foods and other markets. Whole Foods makes faux chicken salad with it. Yum!

Marlene :

T.J. Scallywaggle's in Allston, MA (the greater Boston area) serves the most mouth-watering chick'n strips I have EVER had!! T.J.'s is an all vegan, all-American style sub and pizza shop plastered with animal rights posters. They have an amazing array of cupcakes, pizzas, etc. available---but the chick'n strip side is soooo good, I order them without sauce! Just greasy enough to satisfy fast-food cravings, slightly lemony, exactly the right texture...YUM!

Katie :

Vertical Diner in Salt Lake City has the best faux-chicken tenders EVER. Either the tender tigers w/vegan ranch, or the American Diner w/gravy and handcut fries...either way you get them, they're delicious.

Beth Mickens :

The only Vegan Restaurant I know of is Lotus Vegetarian in Chantilly, VA and they have the best organic orange "chicken" sandwich and the General Tso is so good that my husband (an omni addicted to chicken)absolutely LOVES it!!

veggie deggie :

THE best mock chicken is the "Save the Chicken" meatless chicken at the eatery chain "Native Foods".

Hands down the best. Even my meat-lover friends and family like it.

Hi, three great spots come to mind:

VegiT in Ohio
sublime in Fort Lauderdale
veggie grill in Los Angeles

Enjoy!

Marco :

I second the Soy Delight, a North Carolina treat!

Amy S :

I love Whole Food's Vegan Popcorn nuggets that they have in the deli! It is also used in their vegan general tso's.

Amber Rice :

Native Foods Save the Chicken sandwich...way better than Chic-fil-a!

EJ P :

Without a doubt the vegan chicken from Syra-Juice in Syracuse, NY. Vegan chicken on fresh italian bread, lettuce, tomato and sprouts all with their homemade ranch. Absolutely divine

Lisa :

Ananda Faura in San Francisco has the best faux chicken I have ever had!! I'm not really into faux meats, I'd rather just go without and not bother with a substitute but this place...YUM! I haven't actually had their chicken sandwich but the boyfriend and I always get their chicken pesto wrap. They use "chicken chunks" for that dish which are different from the chicken nuggets and the breaded chicken patty the menu offers. I don't know what their secret is but if you find out please let me know!

Anderson :

I second Brendan's suggestion of "Green", but better than the buffalo chicken sub is the No Harm Chicken Parm. The marinara and "cheese" on it are so good and work in perfect balance with the "chicken" In addition their chili fries are to die for.

However, a close second is Irvine's Veggie Grill, as the texture is scarily close to real chicken.

Jennifer :

As another user stated earlier: the Veggie Grill in Irvine, CA has the most amazing "chicken" sandwiches EVER. Moist with amazing texture and most of all, GREAT flavor. I highly recommended this place to everyone I come into contact with.

I agree with the other posts about Delight Soy Foods in Morrisville, NC, its used by a few local restaurants around the triangle area and Whole Foods sells it as well.
It can fool any meat eater, it's amazing.

NSM :

Veggie Grill in Irvine, California. OMG my mouth is salivating just thinking about their Crispy Chicken' Sandwich and their Buffalo Wings. They also have a great carne asada for you faux-steak lovers. YUM!

adam salverson :

Any of the faux chicken sandwiches from the spiral diner in dallas.

Krista Atkinson :

In the bowl vegetarian noodle bistro in the Capital Hill Neighborhood of Seattle has amazing faux chicken. Conspiracy good, as far as an amazing brand you can buy for home........
I'm a huge fan of an of the Quorn products. The taste and even the texture hit home!

Laura Jarvis :

This Quorn brand meatless frozen chicken patty is the BEST! It is convincing me that I actually can give up meat and I was struggling. It is delicious.

Heidi :

I know we are spoiled with vegan food in California, but Native Foods and Veggie Grill are my favorites for faux chicken, hands down, and in that order.

OMG! Last time in was in NY my friend took me to a vegan place called RED BAMBOO... Vegan soul food if you can believe it.

I had the Fried "chicken" and it was amazing. I live in California and we have some great vegan food- but that was just the best!

johnine :

This is a vegetarian faux, NOT VEGAN, but soooo good!! It is called "QUORN"!!They make breaded nuggets, patties, & the BEST...'naked' chik'n cutlets!! These are really good, soy free & the best of all,"MEATLESS"! I use in salads, for chicken parm,(wth veggie mozzarella)also! They can be grilled & you can brush with any spice you like! I use Mrs. Dash all the time & never use salt or pepper! No need to wth Italian seasoning from the Mrs. Dash line! Try Quorn & I am sure you will LOVE, as much as I do!!

Oh.. I gotta agree with Native Foods' vote. Their faux chicken is ridiculously amazing and their faux burger (I know not what the poll is asking) may be arguably better. Throw some avocado on either for a real treat.

Logan :

There's a delicious place called Red Bamboo in Greenwich Village, NYC. The atmosphere is cozy and the food is fabulous. I've never found a more delicious faux meat, ever. They have awesome dishes like vegan Philly cheesesteak & crispy soul chicken. They also have great entrees like vegan buffalo wings & chicken parm.

Joe :

I second Salt Lake City's Vertical Diner for the best chicken tenders (called Tender Tigers) which they also use for the chicken sandwich. Unlike most resturants, the chix is homemade and amazing.

Joel :

The Veggie Grill has the best tasting faux meats i have ever tasted ! they have different chicken sandwiches from grilled to crispy all of which are amazingly good (their steak is beyond good, too). Veggie Grill is 100% vegan and i've taken so many veggie and non-veggie friends, all of which cannot believe it's fake meat, let alone all vegan. Definitely a must try place ! there's three locations: One in El Segundo, CA (where i go) and 2 in Irvine, CA.

Eri :

Veggie Grill in Irvine! It is AMAZING, even my mom who loves meat likes to go eat there with me. The food is devine and the resturant is always clean, and everyone who works there is super helpful and nice :)

Tiffany Hampton :

Great Blog.

You should contact the bizymoms Irvine community to get your blog featured to their large mom community. I am sure they would love to read your posts.

jim cLean :

Red Bamboo in Brooklyn. Better than a KFC and a Mcchicken combined!

mad :

The best Torontonian faux meat ever I've had has been at Bo-de-duyen restaurant in Chinatown. It's simply fabulous and tastes just like chicken (well I used 'duck', but still!) simply lovely place with great waiters too.

love,

mad
