Grab a towel before clicking on the link to the Allison's Gourmet Web site, because the pictures of gourmet desserts are going to make you drool. The boxes of chocolates are just like those my dad gave me for Valentine's Day when I was a little girl—except they're better because they're vegan.
Now is your chance to win the six-piece vegan chocolate assortment of truffles and caramels and the organic vegan peanut-butter cups. Even better, Allison's Gourmet is going to ship them to your door in time for V-Day, so you can give them to that special lady friend or man in your life—or just protest the holiday and eat them all yourself.
All you have to do to win is leave a comment below describing your favorite vegan Valentine's Day food. It can be a candy, a dessert recipe, a decadent savory item—anything goes! The most intriguing comment—as determined by me—wins the prize.
The contest ends February 10 at 12 noon, and the winner (one person will receive both the six-piece assortment and the peanut-butter cups) will be notified immediately.
Don't forget to check out all the delicious offerings at Allison's Gourmet. Good luck!

I like roasted asparagus with a balsamic vinegar reduction. I don't know why, but asparagus seems quite sexy to me . . . which might be something i should talk to a therapist about.
(I also love vegan chocolates! which may be my second favorite V-day food. yum-yum)

Pumpkin Ravioli with Sage, Pinenuts, and Mushrooms
-1 cup pumpkin puree
-3 tablespoons finely minced shallot or white onion
-4 tablespoons olive oil or margarine
-3 tablespoons soy milk or other nondairy milk
-1 tablespoon sherry or sweet vermouth
-1 tablespoon vegan parmesan cheese
-pinch of nutmeg
-salt and pepper to taste
-pasta dough or won'ton wrappers
-several sprigs of fresh sage
-pine nuts
-mushrooms to taste (I like to use oyster)
-white wine to taste(I know there's already sherry in it, but I think a little white wine really adds to the "sauce")
Step 1: Make the filling. In a large skillet, heat half (2 tablespoons) of the oil or vegan margarine over medium heat. Add the chopped shallot or onion and cook until soft, 2-3 minutes. Add the pumpkin puree and cook until slightly dry, about 2-3 more minutes. Add the soymilk, sherry or vermouth, and nutmeg. Season with salt and pepper. Cook about 2 more minutes.
At this point you can save the filling and make the ravioli another day if you wish.
Step 2: Make the ravioli, using about 2 teaspoon of filling per ravioli and sealing the edges with water. It should make about 16 ravioli. At this point, you can store the ravioli by placing them on layers of wax paper or parchment paper in a sealed container in the refrigerator for a day or two if you aren't ready to cook them. Wonton wrappers may turn gooey-looking where they are in contact with the filling, but they should come out OK after boiling.
If you are cooking them the same night you make them, let the formed ravioli rest while you bring a large pot of water to a boil. This is a good time to chop the sage and mushrooms, and toast the pine nuts. (Toast the pine nuts in a small dry pan over medium heat, shaking every couple of minutes until they are browned to your taste.) Boil the ravioli 2-3 minutes, then remove and pat dry.
Step 3: Dress the ravioli. Either wipe clean the skillet you used for the filling or use a fresh one (make sure its roomy). Heat the remaining half (2 tablespoons) of the olive oil or vegan margarine over medium heat and add the chopped sage, mushrooms, and white wine. Add the cooked ravioli (leave plenty of room - do it in several batches if necessary) and saute for about 2-3 minutes per side. Plate and sprinkle with toasted pine nuts.
Serves: 2-4
Preparation time: 30-40 minutes
**Sometimes I like to add a little pumpkin puree to the sage/mushrooms/wine mixture. It makes it a bit more pumpkiny (which I like) and also adds a little more substance to the "sauce"

My favorite vegan Valentine's dish is good any time you are in need of a chocolate fix! And I don't know about you, but ginger seems to have "effects" on me that are viewed as desirable by my boyfriend!
Gingered Chocolate Mousse
1 (12 ounce) container silken tofu- firm is fine
1/2 (12 ounce) bag vegan chocolate chips, melted
1 to 2 Tablespoons Grand Marnier or liquer of choice
1/4 cup minced candied ginger
In blender- blend tofu, melted chips and liquer until smooth. Spoon into martini glasses, refrigerate until ready to consume. (place any remaining in container and refrigerate for future use- it gets better with a few days time to meld)
Sprinkle servings decoratively with candied ginger, as much as you would like.
Or, smear directly on your intended and sprinkle them with candied ginger.
Bon Appetit!

My favorite vegan Valentine's Day treat is creamy (not shaped/toasted)polenta (made with soy milk) with tomato and mushroom ragout (tomato paste and crushed tomatoes and fresh or dried mushrooms, or both!) topped with soy parmesan. Warms the insides on a cold Feb evening in Chicagoland, and makes for a cozy evening with the significant-other unit ;o)

My favorite vegan "sweet" dish that comes to mind is chocolate fudge. It is hard style fudge, which I just love! I added a little vegan style to my grandmothers recipe and it tastes delicious!
3 cups of organic sugar
2 heaping tablespoons of cocoa
pinch of sea salt
2 cups of soy milk
Mix and bring to boil
Add 2 tablespoons of vegan "butter"
Boil about 35 minutes, stirring constantly
Test it by dropping a small amount in cold water and when you can roll it into a ball you are ready!
Fill sink with cold water, put 1 tablespoon of vanilla in pan and mix it with the bottom part of your pan sitting in the water
Stir until you can't stir anymore, poor in an 8 x 8 pan..watch out because it gets tough!
Let cool, cut and serve.
Yummy!

There is nothing more romantic and special than a Valentine's Day Vegan Dessert that's easy and fun to make with your significant other. That is why I l-o-v-e making Strawberry Champagne Sorbet.
All you do is simmer sugar (about .5 cups) and water (.5 cups) until sugar is dissolved. Then add 2 cups of frozen champagne, a cup of pureed strawberries, and 2 tbsp of corn syrup. Mix well and pop in the freezer for a few hours. Take it out, mix, put it in a blender and dish into martini glasses. Top with strawberries and you have the most decadent and romantic dessert to share with your lovie dovie.
Plus, the champagne will give you the perfect buzz to set the mood. :-)
Happy Vegan Valentine's!

My boyfriend and I have a long-standing tradition of going to a fondue restaurant for Valentine's Day. They have a fantastic menu, with a vegetarian meal that can quite easily be turned in to vegan with a few minor adjustments. First we start off with salads-fresh vegetables with amazing house dressing. Our entree consists of fresh vegetables and seasoned tofu cooked in a vegetable based bouillion in a fondue pot at the table. Last, but not least, comes dessert. Dark chocolate fondue served with fresh pineapple, strawberries and banana slices. Pair all three courses with a bottle of wine and a secluded booth made for two (complete with a velvet curtain that closes for privacy) and you have one heckuva romantic Valentine's Day meal!

For Valentines Day, my wife usually plans a romantic picnic for us in front of a roaring fire. Dinner will consist of mostly finger foods which we can feed to each other, and a green salad (because what is dinner without salad). Dessert consists of some chocolate concoction and strawberries or raspberries. Last year's chocolate was body finger-paint. I can't wait to see what she's got planned this year.

I love having (vegan friendly) champage and strawberries. Also a nice chocolate treat is a must, and I enjoy making my own version of thin mint cookies (like the girl scouts have but this kind is vegan). Hope you enjoy!
* 1 pound bittersweet chocolate
* 80 "buttery" round crackers (Ritz are vegan or use the kind of your choice)
* 1/2 teaspoon peppermint extract
DIRECTIONS
1. Using a double boiler method, melt the chocolate coatings over hot tap water for 15 - 20 minutes. Stir . Do not cook or get water into the chocolate.
2. After it is melted, stir in a couple drops of peppermint flavor into the chocolate.
3. Dip crackers into the melted chocolate and then place onto a cold cookie sheet and put into the refrigerator to set. (A freezing tray to rest the dipped cookies will keep the bottoms neat looking.)
4. In a few minutes take them out and package in candy cups. The cookies are best kept at room temperature or a cool dry place away from any odors.
And those who like other creamy sweets (so you can save room for Allison's Gourmet chocolates, here's a delicious carrot cake:
Equipment:
Two 9-inch cake pans or one 9x13 pan
Blender or food processor for the orange puree
Food processor or bicep equivalent for frosting
Ingredients
1 orange (peel will be used to clean well)
2 cups flour
2 cups sugar
2 tsp. baking powder
2 tsp. baking soda
2 tsp. cinnamon
2 tsp. nutmeg
1 tsp. salt
1 1/4 cup canola oil
1 cup of vanilla soy yogurt
2 cups grated Carrots
1/2 cup of chopped nuts (optional)
Frosting
8 0z. vegan cream cheese (Tofutti Better Than Cream Cheese)
1/4 Soy margarine
1 lb. powdered sugar
1 tbsp. orange puree (instructions below)
1 tsp. vanilla
1 tsp. lemon juice
Directions
Trim both ends off of orange. Cut in wedges, then chunks. Remove center white core and seeds. Puree in blender (yes, including peel) and then reserve one tablespoon of puree for frosting. Sift together flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, cinnamon, nutmeg and salt. Add oil and the orange puree, mixing well. Add yogurt and combine thoroughly. Stir in carrots and optional nuts.
Line two inch 9-inch baking pans OR one 9x13 pan with waxed paper or some sort of flour spray. Pour batter into pan(s) and bake at 350 degrees. Bake one hour if using two 9-inch pans or 45 minutes if using 9x13 pan. Either way, cake is ready when toothpick/cake tester comes out clean.
Let cool in pan 10-15 minutes. Remove from pan and allow to cool completely before frosting.

Okay, I have been single for the past 3 Valentines Days. However, I am not bitter about it--I love it! I get to meet new people and do what I want to when I want to! Here is my favorite Valentine's Day food:
BROWNIES!
1 cup unsweetened applesauce
1/2 cup raw sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla
3/4 cup unbleached white flour
1/3 cup cocoa powder
2 teaspoons baking powder
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup semisweet vegan chocolate chips
Directions:
Preheat oven to 350 and lightly spray or oil an 8 x 8 baking pan.
Mix applesauce, sugar, and vanilla in a medium bowl. In another bowl, whisk flour, cocoa, baking powder, baking soda, and salt together.
Make a well in the center of the dry ingredients and add the applesauce mixture. Mix until just combined. Gently fold in chocolate chips.
Spread in prepared pan and bake 25-30 min, until center is firm and not sticky. Cool completely before slicing. And Enjoy!! : )
After I satisfy my sweet tooth with this guilt free dessert, I don't feel weighed down and lethargic. So then I am feelin' great to go out mingle and meet new people over a soy latte!!

These are absolutely scrumptious!...and of course, your valentine will love them, too!
Chocolate Brazil Nut Squares with Truffle Topping
Ingredients:
7oz. dark chocolate
8oz. packet of biscuits/cookies (digestive or oat ones work well) - broken down to crumb texture
100g/4oz. brazils nuts crushed or broken down in a processor
2 tablespoons of vegan margarine
2 tablespoons of golden syrup
half a box of vegan cream (about 100ml.)
Melt the chocolate in a bowl over hot water. In a pan, slowly melt together the margarine and syrup and then combine this with HALF the chocolate. Stir in the crushed biscuits and nuts and press this into a greased 9" by 9" tin or something of similar size. Beat the soya cream into the remaining 100g or so of chocolate and spread this on top. Chill in the fridge for a couple of hours until set and cut into squares.
Enjoy!

I think the sexiest most perfect food for valentines day is delectable vegan sushi/maki rolls that are filled with all types of aphrodisiacs. The perfect way to spend a dinner feeding yourself and your loved one.
Asparagus
Carrots
Avocado
Ginger
fried tempeh
Tofu
Lettuce
Brown Sushi Rice
Toasted Nori
Assemble like a professional sushi roller.
Then finish it off with a chocolate banana mousse with toasted almonds and coconut. All vegan of course, because after all you don't want your loved one to stink of rotting animal carcass or sour cow's milk.

I love any vegan dessert really and feel I have a passion for dessert. I once said that if I had to choose between eating normal meals forever or eating dessert I would choose dessert. Of course if one didn't gain weight in that situation ;) Another thing is that I have celiac disease which means that I can't eat wheat gluten. That means allot of the time it's hard to get a tasty treat. I like baking, but I can't say I am the best at it since I have to cook in a new way now with different flours. I still haven't got the hang of it quite yet. So, a wonderful vegan treat for Valentines Day would be to make some delicious chocolatey vegan cookies or bars with some wonderful vegan icecream. I would share it with all the ones I love...or just eat allot of it and try to control myself from eating it all :)
These Valentines Day Vegan Chocolates would really mean allot to me :)
Happy Valentines Day!

My favorite Valentine's Day Vegan dish is lasagna.
Last year, my boyfriend and I spent Valentines evening making lasagna together. I think that lasagna is one of those recipes that can be as complex or as simple as you wish to make it. But either way, it does require a bit of assembly and team work... and that's the fun part!
I kept is super simple by using my favorite pasta sauce from a jar. I used veggie crumbles with spinach in my layers. I don't miss the dairy in the lasagna so I didn't look for any substitutes.
There is nothing sexier than watching your boyfriend use his hands to lay out the lasagna noodles...
We had such a good time making lasagna that we will do it again this year!

This will be my 3rd Valentines day being vegan! I absolutely loved last years. I decided to invite my mom and my sister for a little Valentines day dessert party (we are very festive people). I tried to set a pretty set up to eat, what i thought was a perfect low calorie dessert. Candles, fresh roses, relaxing music, and a warm fire was the perfect touch!
Rose-scented raspberry mousse
Ingredients:
One 10-ounce package frozen raspberries, thawed
2 Tablespoons rose water
One 12.3-ounce package lowfat firm tofu, drained
Creating this delish dish:
Drain raspberries. Reserve several raspberries and about a tablespoon of juice. In blender or food processor, combine raspberries, remaining juice, rose water, and tofu. Process until smooth.
Divide mixture into four dessert dishes. Refrigerate several hours or overnight, until thoroughly chilled. Just prior to serving, garnish with reserved raspberries and then drizzle a little juice over the top of each dish.
Mmmmm, healthy, fresh and yummy : )
only about 65 calories
I hope you enjoy it as much as i did!

Every year since I was eight and learned to bake, I've developed a huge sweet tooth, so I love to make brownies lollipops for Valentine's Day!
All you do is make a batch of brownies (vegan of course!) and crumble and mash them all up with your hands. If they aren't very gooey brownies, you may need to add some sort of binder to make a paste (I like to use peanut butter for this!). Then, just form balls of the brownie mixture around some lollipop sticks and pop them in the freezer or fridge for a little bit to harden slightly. Meanwhile, melt some chocolate chips. Remove the lollipops from the freezer and dip them in the melted chocolate to coat them evenly and try to be as gentle as you can so the brownie balls don't fall apart. At this point you can put any vegan sprinkles or other decoration you want on them and I usually like to put them in the fridge again to harden. There you go- now you've got rich, chocolaty brownie lollipops!

The most interesting vegan thing I've eaten is seaweed. My beautiful fiancee and I took a class and learned which kinds (in our area) are ok to eat, and it is delicious. Not cooked, not processed, just plucked from the rocks and chowed down. Of course, seaweed isn't a plant OR an animal... its a protist... does that count? Either way, you should all try it. Its tasty.

My favorite Valentines day treat? Hm, well that's a bit of a difficult one. Not to rain on anyone's parade, but I actually HATE Valentines day. My mum's fiance doesn't celebrate it, so she never gets the diamond ring from the Kay commercial.
So my favorite "treat" to make her is heart shaped pancakes (vegan, of course!)
I basically use a recipe like this: http://www.vegfamily.com/vegan-cooking/vegan-pancakes.htm
only when cooking them, I pour the batter into a metal, heart shaped cookie cutter. :] They come out pretty fantastic (though sometimes just a tad lopsided, hahahhaa)

Use RED on Valentine's day!
make a cup of rice and sautee in onions and eiher fake ground crumbles or fake ground turkey.
sometimes i add some well smashed up brocolli in the rice.
After cleaning the peper and slicing off the top like a pumpkin, stuff it with the rice mixtures.
Use bread crumbs as the lid on the tops and make either a flavored broth, gravy, or tomato sauce to pour on the tops so they dont dry out in the oven.
350 F, about 45 min.
I seve "buttered" carrots and asparagus on the side.
